Cesar Pavese – The Moon and the Bonfire

Karl bought this for me because he had read it for his Italian A-level and said it was great.  Unfortunately I think it has been some time since he read it and it isnt that great.  Maybe this is because it loses something in translation.

The plot – man returns to his village in Northern Italy World War II after leaving it to go to America.  The story alternates between his childhood in the village and the aftermath of World War II.   On returning to his home town, he finds it very different. Unfortunatley the swapping of time periods means that the story often loses its flow and it is very hard to get interested in what is going on.
